Damages from the Tohoku Pacific offshore earthquake
There were no damages to the accelerator. However, for safety check
reason as well as for securing electricity power, its operation will be
stopped for the time being. We are sorry to cause any inconvenience to
the experimenters. ■Nishina Center has sent radiation experts to the affected site.【2011.4.6】
■Discovery of large deformation of very neutron-rich 32Ne nucleus (July 15, 2009) A beam 100 times stronger than any other in the world has allowed an international research group headed by the researchers from the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science (RNC) to demonstrate in only eight hours what it would take other scientists more than six months to achieve. It is the first big experimental achievement using the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF) at RNC.
■On Mar.
23 (Fri.) at 21:00, uranium beam was extracted
from the Superconducting Ring Cyclotron (SRC).
A uranium
86+ beam was accelerated by the SRC, which
is the last of the multi-stage
accelerators of the RIBF, up to 345 MeV/nucleon.
We passed
another critical milestone in the history of
cyclotrons.
